Artistic research

Intellect and somatics

Embodied artistic work opens up experience and transformation that discursive inquiry alone could not reach. Intellect and somatics are irreducible – and enable one another.

The body cannot be dissolved into concepts, nor the concept into the body – it is in their tension that insight becomes possible.

Artistic research is not a supplement to theory here, but a way of knowing in its own right. Conversation, collective reading, performance and embodied practice – rooted also in Berlin’s kink scene – make tangible what can be described but not grasped by thought alone: for instance the consensual negotiation of dominance and submission, carried by attention, responsibility and trust.

The projects emerge in international collaboration, in cooperation with dance studies and in curricular teaching at Freie Universität Berlin.

The Think Tank – The Impact of Thinking

Philosophical reflection, sound art and embodied practice come together in a shared event.

Dance studies and somatic practice

Teaching in dance studies

“Choreography Queer Performance, Gender and Sexpositivity” (2023) and “Necropolitics and Mourning” (2025), both with Kirsten Maar, alongside interdisciplinary teaching on Derrida’s “Force of Law”.

Workshops on consent and corporeality

“Top’s School” and “Corporeality and Consent” connect philosophical reflection with somatic practice. The focus is not on eroticising power, but on the consensual negotiation of dominance and submission: sensing boundaries, articulating desires, sharing responsibility.

The consent workshop centres on voluntary, touch-free exercises in attention and body awareness.

Point of departure

Aesthetic experience

2011–2015: student research assistant at Collaborative Research Centre 626 “Aesthetic Experience and the Dissolution of Artistic Limits”, Freie Universität Berlin – where the relationship between artistic experience, boundaries and normativity first became a subject of research.
